Wrestleview getting more old school... heading back to Carter's America...
Kick this off in style..
It's 1978, and Ric Flair's US Champion. He and Ricky Steamboat had a little feud. Steamboat practically sh!ts himself on the mic and if anyone wants to call John Cena the cheesiest babyface of all time..
Ricky Steamboat: "It hurt me a bit inside you know."
And serves as a notice that really after 10 years, you can recycle angles. Watch the Flair-loses-his-clothes angle 10 years before it was made famous.....
These two are definately in their 'developmental' stages, as Flair goesa bit overboard on the face smoosh on the outside....
I am stoked I found this on 'tube. Not because it's a particularly amazing piece of footage, but because this is the very tape I used to watch as a kid at my Grandparents house. Dusty Rhodes doing what he does best in 1978. He could work the crowd so fu<king unbelievabley well. SO happy I found this.

I'd really like to see some Bruno Sammartino v. Waldo Von Erich... as I have the history of the WWE title and have seen a few Bruno matches outside of that DVD, but think this would be a graet encounter... as well as Bruno v. Ernie Ladd! (I think those were both from '75) Also, I don't know if anyone could locate Billy Graham v. Dusty Rhodes or Bob Backlund... or maybe even let me know if it's worth my time to seek these out.
Also, i'm really getting into mid-atlantic... and have started to check out some stuff, like Big John Studd v. Steamboat... Stan Hansen v. Tosh Togo... Ric Flair, Harley Race, and Masked Superstar vs Blackjack Mulligan, Dick Murdoch, & Wahoo McDaniel (I love this match!!)... as well as Steamboat/Valentine... anyone got any 'sure fire' hits that I need to check out... thanks!

The Destroyer vs Mil Mascaras AJPW 7/25/74 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5W8NC7GX The Destroyer is one of my favorite wrestlers ever. Mil Mascaras was actually good in the 1970s. You shouldn't watch this if you are allergic to mat wrestling.
Terry Funk vs Jumbo Tsuruta AJPW 6/11/76 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HZ9V1KAJ Meanwhile Jumbo Tsuruta is my favorite wrestler ever. He's young here but that doesn't really matter because he was born to do this. Jumbo was trained on the Funk family ranch so he knows Terry pretty well. Terry was a great technical wrestler back then. Add the NWA title and a big time atmosphere to the mix and you have a winner.

This is probably my favorite match of all time. I do recommend this. Baby Jumbo vs the NWA champions during the mid-late 70's is a treat. He also has matches with Jack Brisco, Harley Race, Billy Robinson and Dory Funk Jr from that time period worth tracking down.

I was actually going to post a link to the matches he has against Billy Robinson in '76 but Ditch's links to those matches are down. They aren't as beautiful as Funk vs Jumbo but you get to see that B!TCHIN' "Snake Pit" wrestling style that Billy Robinson uses.
Giant Baba vs Billy Robinson AJPW 7/24/76 is pretty excellent as well. I love watching 70s Baba. He's a smart worker who knows his limitations which allows him to look excellent most of the time. I love Akira Taue though so that shouldn't be a huge surprise.

The only names there that ring a bell for me are Manny Sota and Paul Figeroa. Can't say I remember much, though. I seem to think Manny Sota was usually in some random tag team, and Paul Figeroa was a jobber. Not much to find Googling, but I did find a page stating that Paul Figeroa was squashed by a WWF debuting Hulk Hogan on Dec.17, 1979.
