Limit this to 5-10...and give reasons why you liked the match. And this isn't the "best" matches, just your favorite ones to watch.

My top 5...

5) Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart(Cage Match - SummerSlam 94)
- This is the gold standard for Cage Matches, IMO. Two brothers, two ring technicians, go at it inside of the ol' blue-bar steel cage. CLASSIC!

4) Ricky Steamboat vs. Randy Savage(IC Title Match - Wrestlemania III)
- If you haven't seen this match...WATCH IT. These two go at it furiously for 30 minutes. I know that some of the younger cats on the board may not have seen this match, but they should. Steamboat was at his best here, and Savage proved he was worthy of main-event status.

3) Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart(Iron-Man World Title Match - Wrestlemania XII)
- You can't really leave this match off any "top matches" list. Classic, classic, classic. Worked well by both men, considering they had to go 60+ minutes without scoring a pinfall or submission.

2) The Ultimate Warrior vs. Randy Savage(Career Match - Wrestlemania VII)
- This match is sorely underrated at times. The crowd was into this match like crazy. Careers were on the line, and when the Warrior kicked out after 5 Randy Savage flying elbow drops, we all marked out...at least a little bit...none of the smarks wanna admit to marking out to Warrior, but I'll admit it.

1) Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect(IC Title Match - SummerSlam 91)
- Two of the best workers in the business put on a 20-minute classic here. I knew the minute that Hart won that this guy was a legend in the making. Perfect played his heel role, well, perfectly. Hart was the face, but he had a bit of an edge that wasn't prevalent to faces at that time.

Honorable mentions...
Savage/Flair(Wrestlemania VIII)
Hart/Michaels(House Show, 1992...the FIRST ladder match ever, check the Coliseum tapes for this one)
Warrior/Hogan(Wrestlemania VI)
Hogan/Savage(Wrestlemania V)
Hart/Austin(Wrestlemania 13...the match that started the Attitude era)

Wow...I'm gonna catch hell for the fact that Warrior is in my top 5, and in my honorable mentions

And I'll probably think of others once I give this some more thought.

I personal favorites are:
5-The Undertaker's Debut at Suvivor Series
4-Warrior Vs Hogan- I was a Warrior fan as a kid and this was by far the most important match in his career
3-Ricky Steamboat vs. Randy Savage-The most influential match ever.
2-Owen Hart Vs Bret Hart(WRESTLEMANIA 10)- The cage match was better, but this match ranks a little higher for personal reasons
1-The British Buldog Vs Bret Hart(IC title at SummerSlam)-Awesome match. My favorite Bret Hart match ever.

Here are mine......

5. Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon (March 20th, 1994- Wrestlemania 10)- Exciting Match. It kept you on the edge of your seat. But the true star was.............the ladder!

4. Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect (August 26th, 1991- Summerslam 1991)- Only Perfect could give this performance with a screwed up back. He tried his best to make the match a classic and he succeeded. Bret was good but Perfect stole the spotlight on the night.

3. Randy Savage vs. Ric Flair (April 5th, 1992- Wrestlemania 8 )- Crowd was way into this match. The atmosphere was great which makes this match a classic. The action was also great. The storyline was one of the best WWE ever produced.

2. The Ultimate Warrior vs. Randy Savage (March 24th, 1991- Wrestlemania 7)- This match was great because you didn't know who was going to win. The loser had to retire which made the match much exciting. The crowd loved every minute of this match. This was quite possibly the best match of Warrior's career.

1. Bret Hart vs. British Bulldog (August 29th, 1992- Summerslam 1992)- What a great match! If you want to be a wrestler, watch this match!! This is a match that is a true ***** match. This match is fully responsible for Bulldog's legacy. This is the best match of Bulldog's career and one of Bret's best.

This match is fully responsible for Bulldog's legacy

^^^^^^

yeah, what a great legacy he had after that.

Hogan v. Warrior. Quite possibly the greatest/most important matc ever, however, he nor anyone can take the torch from Hogan

Undertaker vs. Ric Flair for the WWF title from 1992: This match comical and it was a typical Undertaker match but fun to watch and always a great laugh to go with it.

Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steam from Wrestlemania 3: This just showed what a great wrestling this was and there were great moves from both men and a match that I can never get bored of watching.

Ric Flair vs. Bret Hart for the IC title: This match was a classic with 2 great wrestlers and also some funny stuff from Ric Flair and it's just a great match to watch.

Bret Hart vs. The British Bulldog at SummerSlam'92: This match was builtup great from the beginning and it delivered in the ring aswell and plus it was a match between brother-in laws and it made it much more better plus the fact of wrestlers being skilled.

Razor Ramon vs. Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 10: It was a great match and the fact that they could use the ladder and put thier bodies on the line and gav it all in this match made it exciting to watch.

I can't narrow it to jsut five as I found most matches before the "beloved attitude era" better than those during the attitude era, save a few classics.

But off the top of my head I'll say:

Hart vs. Hart WMX
Hart vs. Hart SSlam 94
Hart vs. Bulldog SSlam 92
Hart vs. Hennig SSlam 91
Hennig vs. Tornado SSlam 90

I don't wanna say anything to Hulkamania. It's way too easy...

My favorites from the PRE-Attitude era:

5) Bret Hart v. Owen Hart (Wrestlemania X)
Classic in every sense of the word. From the time the opening bell rang to the time of the end of the match, Bret and Owen really gave it 100% right here. And it was SHOCKING for the time, because of all of the times that Bret would go over his brother afterward, Owen actually went over right here. Great.

4) Bret Hart v. Shawn Michaels (Wrestlemania XII)
The Ironman Match. It is a little overrated, but it is still good. It was slow in some cases, and it is hard to watch a match for an hour straight, but after while, they really kicked it into high gear and they really began to work off of each other. And it gave HBK his first WWF Championship IN SUDDEN DEATH. Not much better.

3) Shawn Michaels v. Mankind (Mind Games 1996)
"If you want a mat match, Shawn Michaels will give it to you. If you want a brawl, Shawn Michaels will give it to you. This guy can step it up and change styles like nobody else in World Wrestling Federation history!" I didn't expect much hearing JR say a quote like that, because, for the time, it was still WRESTLING. But I was pleasantly surprised as to how good the match turned out. Michaels did change his style to meet Foley's needs, and Foley wasn't that shabby either. An amazing performance by both men, and easily the 1996 MOTY, and if not, a damn close candidate.

2) Shawn Michaels v. Razor Ramon (Summerslam 1995)
I like the WMX ladder match - but it isn't in my top five. This one, however, is. I went into watching this match KNOWING full well that there was no way in hell that they were going to counter the WMX match, that they were going to make it better. And I was wrong. From the minute the guys made their entrance, we saw flying, brawling, beating, and in the end, we saw the right man winning.

1) Bret Hart v. Curt Hennig (Summerslam 1991)
They just do not get any better than this as far as the pre-attitude era goes. Both men are two of the finest workers in the entire industry, and both men completely pulled out all of the stops in this match. It didn't go too fast, it didn't go to slow. As a matter of fact, it stayed right in the middle. And it deserves the honor of BEST MATCH BEFORE THE ATTITUDE ERA.

5. Bret Hart vs Owen Hart(WrestleMania X)- it was a good match and went the whole time great and really starts off WM the right way, and seeing Owen beat his brother was classic at the time and still great to know.

4. Shawn Michaels vs Razor Ramon(WrestleMania X)- This match starts the historical of the ladder, the ladder was used perfect, but the actually wrestled without using the ladder too much. Seeing Shawn Michaels jump off the ladder onto Razor in a type of Frog Splash type of move is still one of the most biggest moment in wrestling history. And its ending was good too and really just top notch action the whole match.

3. Bret Hart vs Shawn Michels(WrestleMania XII)- maybe overrated, but still a pure classic. Sure not the first hour long match, but this was the first time that 2 wrestlers had to wrestle for a hour in a match and only one decision and that happened in overtime. I watched it and just couldn't believe it, the only downfall was that each one of them didn't really wrestle there type of match as Shawn was doing the submissions more and Bret Hart was making it more fast pace, but still a classic.

2. Bret Hart vs British Bulldog(SummerSlam 1992)- great match and fast pace. This is the match that really did make Bulldog's legacy and helped make Bret Hart in a way too. Not much I can say that no one else has said.

1. Ricky Steamboat vs Macho Man(WrestleMania 3)- I loved this match, maybe my favorite match ever, it was more classic then ever, it was probably a instant classic. The crowd(largest ever) seem to stay in it from the beginning to end. They said there were 19 near-falls and I think that is right. I loved the whole match.

Honorable mentions:
Bret Hart vs Stone Cold(WrestleMania 13)
Bret Hart vs Mr. Perfect(SummerSlam 1991)
Shawn Michaels vs Mankind(Mind Games in your house)
Shawn Michaels vs British Bulldog(King of the Ring 1996)

5. Hogan vs Andre, c'mon this has gotta be in the top 5, even if the actual match was not very good, this is the time (in my view) when Hulkamania became and unstoppable force.

4. Bulldog vs Bret Hart IC title, was the best match the Bulldog ever put on.

3. Undertaker's first appearance, we were introduced to the man who carried WWF after Hogan left, in my view wrestling would have never have been as good as it was without the Undertaker.

2. Micheals vs Razor Ramon Ladder match, this was a groundbreaking match, this was the first time people realised that you could actually do something outside the ring.

1. Micheals vs Hart WWF title, I have never particulary liked Micheals or Hart. But man this was an amazing match, how did 2 men put on a 60 minute match wothout it getting boring. I have only ever since this again (Angle vs Lesnar a couple of years back.) Man what a match.

I also liked the 95 Royal Rumble, the first 2 men in were also the last men. Micheals finaly showed people that he was a capable main ever. But what were WWF thinking not giving him the WWF title and keeping it with Diesel :?

5. Hulk Hogan v. Randy Savage, Wrestlemania V-- Far and away Hogan's best match ever and damn incredible psychology here. The interesting thing here is that Savage didn't do a TON of carrying. He did carry Hogan, but not TOO much. Regardless, it doesn't take away from what I consider the best Wrestlemania main event until Wrestlemania XII. Sorely underrated.

4. Bret Hart v. Owen Hart, Wrestlemania X-- This is simply simple. It's simplicity is what made it so damn good. Nothing jaw dropping by any stretch of the imagination as far as crazy moves or bumps, but just perfectly exectuted holds and counters. Best wrestled match of the 90s really.

3. Rowdy Roddy Piper v. Bret Hart, Wrestlemania VIII-- This match is so good on so many levels and never gets the due it deserves. Yes, the Bulldog match was a better Hart match as was his match with Perfect, but this is my FAVORITE Bret match ever. The two told such a great story in the ring.

2. Stone Cold Steve Austin v. Bret Hart, Wrestlemania 13-- The best Wrestlemania match ever up to that point. It's still in my ever changing top three WM matches of all time. Can't say anything that hasn't already been said.

1. Royal Rumble Match 1992-- I'm going to stray from the pack here. This had ALL the big stars from the 90s and 80s: Flair, Hogan, Sid, Savage, Slaughter, Jake Roberts, Piper, HBK, Bulldog, Undertaker, Ted Dibiase, Kerry Von Erich, Nikolai Volkov, Greg Valentine, and Tito Santana... add up the titles and memories on that list and not only would it be longer then any of my posts, it's also what makes it the best match pre-attitude era. You got EVERYONE in one ring and it was history. The right man won too. Incredible Rumble and my favorite pre-attitude match ever.

I can't do a "countdown" because I can't honestly figure out which match I prefer.

Yes I can. Savage/Steamboat WM III. Amazing match, great psychology, back and forth wrestling from two guys in their primes. The number of 2 counts was incredible.

Undertaker vs. Jake Roberts, WM VIII. Jake hit three smooth, fluid DDTs on Taker...boom, sit up...man, I love this match.

Bret v. Owen, WM X. Great match, brilliant psychology and a NICE finish with an unusual move. This match more than any other gave Owen credibility.

Hart/Piper, WM VIII. This match is Piper's best.

Flair v. Savage, WM VIII. AMAZING psychology and a post-match interview from Flair that had Perfect almost laughing out loud.

1. Diesel vs Bret "Hitman" Hart, WWF Title Match, Royal Rumble 1995. Classic match between two of the best wrestlers the WWF had during the mid 1990's. It was a fantastic match full of excitement and pure energy. Harts technical excellence against the raw power of Diesel. Good ending as I don't think you would of been able to pick a winner in this one.

2. Rowdy Roddy Piper vs Bret "Hitman" Hart, WWF Intercontinental Title, Wrestlemania 8. This match made that event special, along with the flair/savage match was easily the best match of the night. Pure class!

3. Razor Ramon vs The Undertaker, this match took place I think in 1992 or 1993. I think it was 1993 but anyway it was a Coliseum video match that ended in a double countout but I don't care because it was a fantastic mat classic. 15-20 minutes of solid wrestling not only did taker give punishment he received one of the best beatings from Ramon. Back in those days when Taker was "unstoppable" I consider Ramon to have been his best ever opponent and this match proves it. You can find it on The Undertaker: His Gravest Matches.

4. Hakushi vs Bret "Hitman" Hart, In Your House 1, May 1995. This was the first match of the night and was without a shadow of a doubt the best match of the night. A solid opener. If your a fan of technical wrestling with a bit of high flying you'll love this match. Hart won with a clean finish and a smart move. All I can say is UNBELIEVABLE, which is a shame really as the rest of the card is very average with only a few bright spots.

5. "Double J" Jeff Jarrett vs "Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels. Intercontinental title, In Your House 2, July 1995. The best match on the card and definitely shown the importance of the IC Title in a classic encounter which was highly entertaining. As much as I hate Michaels personally, professionally he is a hell of a talent and this match backs it up. In my opinion, this also could be Jeff Jarretts finest moment as well.

Also considered:

Mr. Perfect/Bret Hart, IC Title, Summerslam 1991
Mr. Perfect/Shawn Michaels, IC Title, Summerslam 1993
Randy Savage/Ric Flair, World Title, Wrestlemania 8
Ultimate Warrior/Rick Rude, IC Title, Summerslam 1989
Jake Roberts/Hercules, Summerslam 1988
Hart Foundation/Brain Busters, Summerslam 1989

Warrior/Hogan WMVI - Champ vs Champ, 2 biggest stars in the company, right man won (I'm a huge Warrior mark). Awesome.

Razor Ramon/HBK Ladder Match WMX - First ever ladder match in the WWF, so many cool stunts. The bench mark for all ladder matches in the future.

Bret Hart/Austin I Quit Match WMXIII - this match went a long way to making Austin a star. By not quitting and bleeding tons, he really established himself as a legitimate badass. Will go down as a legendary match that started the attitude era. This match is the true definition of what the attitude era was all about.

Owen Hart/Bret Hart Cage Match Summerslam '94 - brother vs brother for the world title inside a steel cage! Nothing much that gets bigger than this. Everything was done right. From the entire Hart family at ringside to the drama of the actual match. Brilliant

Owen Hart/Bret Hart WMX - What can I say that hasn't already been said? Shocking that Owen won, but the match was even more significant because of Bret winning the title later that night in the main event. Owen coming out and staring a hole straight through Bret when he was holding the title was intense beyond belief.

Well there has been a ton of great matches and long before the attitude era came along and I remember so many that I have seen watching wrestling the last 23 years.

Steel Cgae Match: Jimmy Snuka vs. Bob Backlund for the WWF title-1980

Steel Cage Match: Jimmy Snuka vs. Don Muraco when Snuka jupmed from top of the cage onto Muraco-1983

WWF Title Match: Hulk Hogan vs. Iron Sheik-Hulkamania begins in the WWF.

IC Title Match: Macho Man vs. Tito Santana-Danny Davis was the ref for that match and caused Santana the IC title and he was also responsible for the Hart Foundation becoming the WWF tagteam champions by defeating the British Bulldogs.

Ricky Steamboat vs. Macho Man from WM3

Hulk Hogan vs. Macho Man from WM5

Ultimate Warrior vs. Macho Man from WM7 and SummerSlam'92

Hart Foundation vs. Demolition-SummerSlam'90

Hart Foundation vs. The Legion Of Doom-Wrestlefest'91

Bret Hart vs. British Bulldog-SummerSlam'92

Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart-Survivor Series'92

Shawn Michaels vs. Marty Jeannetty-Steel Cage Match from Bloopers Bleeps and BodySlams video.

Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon-WM10

These are just a few because I can name many many more but that's all for now.

i cant put these in order, since i havent seen them in a while.

Hart vs Hart- WMX. Though there's no real order, this one is the best of the bunch, hands down. you like this, and storylines about as good as the owen heel turn to bret/owen feud, you'll like ROH. It's that simple.

Steamboat vs Savage- WMIII: awesome awesome match. crowd ate it up nicely. Something to wonder though, is how much better could it couldve been, had they ad-libbed like Steamboat and Flair did in their matches (steamboat said in an interview one time savage worked matches that were totally pre-planned)?

Hogan/Warrior- WMVI: not good in the sense of the two listed above, but an epic encounter, complete with some of hogans best selling ever.

20 man, 10 team tag, Survivor Series 88: forgotten match in the history of WWF. served the dual purpose of a Demolition face turn, and a powers of pain heel turn. also, 45 minutes of just crisp, good wrestling. no 'rapid fire' eliminations either, as ben hagen calls them.

backlund/hart, survivor series 93. i liked this, save the last 8-12 minutes where it's just a chicken wing. even then, the story of the match was playing out.

RR 92 match: im with towney here, awesome stuff. 2 flair flops, and lots of big names and feud development throughout.

bret vs razor ramon- RR93. a forgotten match from the early 90s. by far the best scott hall match ive ever seen.

I might have already posted. I dunno.

All of the Bret Hart vs. Mr Perfect matches deserve top nomination.

As do both Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin matches (though they are on the razor's edge of the attitude era).

Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart at Wrestlemania X is superb.

Both Razor vs. Michaels ladder matches deserve some credit.

Savage's performances against Hart in '87, and in Wrestlemanias 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 all deserve high mention (especially 5, 7, and 8).

The Rockers are quickly becoming my favorite team of the late 80's early 90's from the company. Their matches against the Hart Foundation, the Brainbusters, Demolition, Haku and Barbarian, the Orient Express, etc. are just so dynamic and exciting for the era.

I'm sure there are others, but that's all I got for now.

EDIT: Hogan vs. Warrior is a great match.

Yeah, you read that right. Do you not agree with the statement. If not, please explain. 8)

He was slow, sloppy, injury prone.

He wasn't a big draw, he could tear a hamstring while picking up the phone.

There are more reasons, but those should be enough.

Ok, il admit, hes had his bad moments

1. Turning Point : Six man tag
2. In Your House 2: Lumberjack Match
3. Destination X: First Blood

All Dreadful, but what about

1. Wrestlemania 12/taker
2. Bash at the Beach 1996
3. fall brawl/War Games 1996
4. wrestlemania 11/In Your House with michaels

Good matches.

Wrestlemania 12 - Are you joking? Undertaker has never had a good match that is worthy - especially this one. Undertaker couldn't carry a gear on his motorcycle, and he sells better. Diesel, I hate to say it, is the good part of this match. And that's saying something.

Bash at the Beach 1996 match sucked, it's the moment that Hogan turned heel that made that good.

Fall Brawl/War Games 1996 sucked too. And he really didn't do much in that but take an @$$-kicking.

Wrestlemania 11/In Your House - Duh, you say. Look who it was against.

Look :x , I will be the first to say the guy should be retired. I pray to God he doesn't come back to TNA or he will kill the company and with Dusty Rhodes gone as booker, I dont think he will be coming back.

Whats wrong with Diesal against Michaels?

I take it you dont like seven footers.

^ I have nothing against seven footers or even the guys up in weight.

Vader is one atheltic sumbitch for a guy his size
UnderSucker has some balance for a guy his size
Kane can do a lot for a guy his size
Hell, even Big Show is pretty amazing for a guy his size

But I'm gonna tell when I think someone sucks.

If you don't like it, move on.

Andre in his prime>Big Show. Big Show is good but can't hold a candle to Andre of the 70's.

Nah, Andre is probably one of the greatest and most athletic big men of the entire time period he was in his prime. Of course, once he got old and sick he couldn't do much, which is obvious. But when he was young and healthy, he was almost perfect.

Andre was amazing. I just watched a match between him and Stan Hansen in Japan from 1981 and I couldn't believe my eyes. It was like watching a Godzilla movie . . . plus it was a superb match.

Flair talked about that in his book, that Steamboat didn't consider that his best match but always smiled politely when people complimented him on it...because of just that...Savage, according to Flair, liked everything choreographed and precise. He did little improv.

Re. Andre, people tend to think of the 1987 Andre, in tremendous pain, slow, uncoordinated, but if you can, please go back and watch Andre in the late 70s and early 80s. You will see an incredibly fast, agile big man, second to only the Undertaker in my book as the most agile big man ever in wrestling. RIP.

I wish to take back anything bad I said about Andre the Giant, the guy was a legend and no doubt had great courage to become a wrestler with his disease and he loved the business very much.

But having said that..... some of his matches from mid 1989 until spring 1990 were AWFUL, I understand that was because of his illness but again having said that as I love collecting wrestling videos, I have a tape with matches of the Ultimate Warrior on it and one of the matches is against Andre the Giant at a house show in Canada for the IC Belt, it also had the pleasent experience of commentary from the late great Gorilla Monsoon and the very recent late great Lord Alfred Hayes, anyway although Andre was slow he still had a great match.

I wish to apologise again, Im only comparing a very slow, out of shape Big Show to an Andre that Andre the Giant didnt want nor choose to be like.

R.I.P Andre :(

Bret Hart vs:

Roddy Piper WM VIII
Owen Hart WM X
Austin WM 13

Rockers vs:

Brainbusters SNME 89 (Not the 2/3 falls one, the first one is better, I think)
Oriental Express Rumble 91
