I was watching both CMLL and AAA on wapa
(Spanish channel on directv) and i was wondering are they feuding promotions like wcw and wwf were?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
on a side note when watching AAA a stable by the name of Mexican Powers came out.I was watching to see if any body i would recognize was in the group and sure enough juventud (no mask) and
psicosis (with mask) were in there along with about two other members
the team seemed to be very over with the crowd.
They faced a group of guys dressed all in blue and yellow.
I also noticed a group of guys who dressed in black and white attire and one of the members looked like vampiro but I'm not sure if it was him or not.
and might i add that juvi and psicosis put on a hek of a match which included a insane highspot were a member of Mexican Powers did a moonsault off the top of a balcony in the arena
(similar to super crazy's at ONS1)
and konan came out to eye of the tiger in a Ric flair like robe and velvet blue hat and got booed outta the building and it also seemed like alot of the wrestlers came out to sting's old metallica music and wore shirts that said secta so I'm assuming that they are all one big stable
and LA PARKA came out to "thriller -michael jackson" and got the biggest pop i have ever heard in my life lol

You posted this a WHILE ago but oh well. So AAA and CMLL are like wcw vs wwf. AAA is more flashy and cmll is more traditional if im not wrong the aaa guys broke away from cmll in the early 90s. AAA does rip off wwe. AAA has rey de reyes(king of the ring) AAAmania (wrestlemania). They took Juventud and started the Mexican Powers After the Mexicools. And its not the original Picosis it is a guy AAA used to replace the original the one u saw in wwe. The original group was Juvi, Picosis II,Crazy boy(relative to super crazy, borthers or cousins) and joe lider. Oh and La Parka Replaced the La parka we saw in WCW and see today in the indy scene as L.A. Park
for more lucha info on a specific wrestler check out luchawiki.org and we get weekly lucha news here on wrestleview

You may know theses guys, Psicosis (the original, now wrestling as Nicho), Juventud Guerrera, & Rey Mysterio Jr. As for the guys all in black, im guessing the Dark Family (Ozz, Cuervo, Escoria, & Espiritu).

Of course it is still more traditional than AAA but that ain't hard. CMLL has turned up the number of big moves and shrunk down the amount of time spent on the mat. Just compare the length of a primera caida in the 90s to length of those falls nowadays. The only place you ever see real traditional Lucha Libre anymore is on Mexican indy shows or IWRG (and even that isn't always true).

Yeah CMLL has modernized themselves in that instance but they still don't do the wacky storylines and stuff that AAA blatantly steals from the U.S. As far as the traditional stuff, they still pull it off from time to time (see Blue Panther vs. Villano IV from last year and I hear Guerrero/Villano V was like that recently but I haven't watched it yet).

I'm very curious but also a little skeptical of Guerrero/Villano V. Ultimo Guerrero kind of represents the modern CMLL style to me and while I prefer seeing him working that style to Averno or Mephisto I still don't like it. The matwork and more traditional match structures of old school lucha are what really defines lucha libre to me. When a lucha match doesn't have those things it feels kind of soulless to me.

I've always felt that lucha libre was defined by the fast paced action mixed with great mat wrestling and incredible high flying moves. at least that is what attracted me to it and what caused me to fall in love with it. i can enjoy a 40 minute catch-as-catch can mat wrestling clinic between El Hijo del Santo and Blue Panther same as I can enjoy a 10-15 minute breakneck speed match full of high spots and crazy counters between Volador Jr. and Ricky Marvin as equally.

It's not just the mat wrestling. There's shtick, bumping, and theatrical brawling that are also important to me. The classic stuff has this incredible "home grown" quality to it. Like a how Rock 'n' Roll is white kids trying to play black music. They fail miserably at that but their end result is still great and sounds different and beautiful. MS-1 vs Sangre Chicana from 1983 makes me want to cry. I just don't feel an emotional connection like that to the modern stuff.
