My finals are over with and this semester is done. What does that mean? Now I can really get to watching more wrestling and especially lucha libre that I've been putting off for awhile now. One of those things is the great Lucha Libre documentary that Mike Tenay did in WCW that I literally haven't seen in over 10 years. It took me awhile to track down all the shows that the 6 part documentary appeared on and then split them up and upload them, but it's done! Also, I upped a few of the matches that took place at this time on Nitro. None of them are classic like a lot of other WCW Lucha matches were but still some good action. Hope you guys enjoy and there is much more like this to come in the future! Here is the download links and the review is right after:

Mike Tenay & WCW Present: “Lucha Libre & the Mexican Luchadores” Documentary
September-November 1997
Josh Boutwell of WrestleView.com Part 1 The first part of the documentary is just pretty much a preview of what’s to come in the documentary including highlights of some of the luchadores and Tenay previewing things to come like visiting the very first ever Mask makers shop, the importance of the mask, visiting Lucha training camps, and much more!
Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. El Caliente (masked Eddie Guerrero)The first match to be featured is a special match between Rey Mysterio Jr. and a ‘new’ luchadore called “El Caliente”. Rey was about to give a young fan one of his masks when Caliente hits a sliding dropkick underneath the bottom rope sending Rey into the guard rail. Caliente then throws Rey back in the ring and puts the boots to him and then puts the mask Rey was going to give the fan on over his own mask. He then mocks Rey while Mike Tenay wonders just who in the hell El Caliente is, he says he’s been following Lucha Libre for over 20 years and has never heard or seen him. Caliente slams Rey into the corner and then goes to the apron and hits a very familiar looking slingshot senton splash. Tenay and Schiavone are now saying how familiar that move looked. Caliente goes for a press slam but Rey counters into a facebuster and then a springboard moonsault, but Caliente catches him in midair. Caliente goes for a tilt-a-whirl but Rey counters into an arm drag! Rey then leapfrogs Caliente and then hits a monkey flip followed by a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker of his own. Rey pulls his mask back off of Caliente and throws it to the fans. Rey then hits a drop toe hold on Caliente and hits several forearms. Rey tries to whip Caliente into the corner but Caliente reverses it. Rey springs to the top and goes for a Moonsault but Caliente moves and Rey eats the mat. Caliente with a basement dropkick to Rey’s head. Caliente hits a back suplex and gets the first nearfall of the match. Caliente goes for a gutwrench powerbomb but Rey counters with another arm drag but Caliente comes right back with a clothesline. Caliente attempts to pull Rey’s mask off but Rey refuses to let him. Caliente then hits a snapmare takeover and then steps on Rey’s face. Caliente picks Rey up as the fans are chanting “Eddie sucks” now. Caliente hits a vicious Powerbomb! 1…2…NO Rey kicks out! Caliente whips Rey into the ropes and then puts him in an Abdominal Stretch. Caliente then throws Rey into the top turnbuckle and sits Rey up on the top rope. Caliente hits a big Superplex off the top and then gets another nearfall. Caliente attempts to snake eyes Rey in the corner but he shoves Caliente into the corner himself. Rey then charges Caliente but he backdrops Rey up and over the top rope. Rey lands on the apron and then hits a shoulder block through the middle rope and springs to the top. Eddie charges at Rey so Rey jumps from top rope to the top turnbuckle and then hits a gorgeous West Coast Pop off the top! 1…2…3 and Rey wins! Rey then pulls Caliente’s mask off revealing that it is, in fact, Eddie Guerrero!
Winner: Rey Mysterio Jr. via pinfall (West Coast Pop) (Great match, these two always had unbelievable chemistry. This match brings back a ton of great memories of WCW and of Eddie in general. R.I.P. to him. ***)Part 2 Mike Tenay tells us the basics of Lucha Libre which would of course telling us the translation of “lucha libre” which is free fight and that luchadores are Mexican wrestlers. Tenay is inside the historic Arena Mexico (which is pretty much the Madison Square Garden of Mexico) in Mexico City and he goes over the background of Lucha Libre’s beginnings which is all owed to Salvadore Lutteroth, the founder of EMLL (now known as CMLL), the oldest wrestling promotion in the world. Tenay goes over lucha first bringing in the masked wrestlers and talks about some of the greatest wrestlers in the early days of lucha including El Santo and Gory Guerrero (Eddie’s father). Tenay puts over the Lucha Libre films and their importance in the Lucha Libre history. They even show some clips of films that featured the likes of El Santo and Blue Demon. Tenay then goes over the rudos (bad guys) and tecnicos (good guys) aspect of lucha. Tenay then puts over the 2nd and 3rd generation wrestlers in Lucha that dominated the 80s and 90s and then puts over the incredible “When World’s Collide” PPV that WCW co-promoted in the early 90s. Tenay then talks about the major promotions in Mexico including EMLL, AAA, Promo Azteca, & UWA (only EMLL now CMLL and AAA still run regular shows in Mexico). They show tons of great highlights of lucahdores and tell us that next time they will explore the history of the masks and its importance in Lucha Libre.
WCW Cruiserweight Championship
Eddie Guerrero (c) vs. Ultimo Dragon The next match that is highlighted features once again the late, great Eddie Guerrero who was the WCW Cruiserweight Champion at this time. Ultimo Dragon is a man that is considered not only a legend in his home country of Japan but also in Mexico as well. Mexico is actually where Dragon learned most of his high flying, amazing maneuvers. Eddie and Dragon lock up and Eddie gets the advantage with a side headlock but Dragon counters out. Eddie slams Dragon down by the mask and Dragon complains to the referee. Dragon and Eddie lockup in a Greco Roman knuckle lock and Eddie gets the advantage trying to force Dragon down, but Dragon bridges himself keeping his shoulders off the mat. Eddie slams his body weight on Dragon but he still doesn’t go down and then he attempts it again but Dragon gets his feet up and forces Eddie to his feet. Dragon then hits a Monkey Flip but keeps his fingers interlocked with Eddie’s and rolls through but Eddie hits a monkey flip of his own. Dragon lets go of Eddie’s hands on lands on his feet. Dragon comes off the ropes and hits a gorgeous head scissors takeover but Eddie comes right back with a nasty back elbow. Eddie then hits a Back Suplex and goes to the apron. Eddie then goes for the slingshot senton, but Dragon moves and Eddie lands on his feet. Eddie comes off the ropes and Dragon drops down, Eddie leaps over him, and then Dragon goes for a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker and botches it so he just slams Eddie to the mat. Dragon then hits a snapmare takeover and hits several nasty kicks to the back of Eddie. Dragon locks Eddie in a Sleeper but Eddie fights to his feet and breaks the hold. Eddie whips Dragon into the ropes and hits a big clothesline. Eddie then gives Dragon a receipt from earlier and kicks him in the back. Eddie then hits a Brainbuster and covers, 1…2..NO Dragon kicks out! Eddie puts Dragon in an Abdominal Stretch and drives his elbow into Dragon’s ribs. Eddie then hits a European Uppercut followed by several chops. Eddie whips Dragon into the ropes and goes for a press slam but Dragon counters into a beautiful hurricanrana! Eddie leg kicks Dragon and then whips Dragon into the ropes and goes for a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, but Dragon lands on his feet and then hits one of his own! Eddie whips Dragon into the ropes and goes for a backdrop but Dragon lands on his feet and hits a barrage of palm thrusts and leg kicks followed by a spinning back kick to the face! Dragon whips Eddie into the ropes and hits another big palm thrust sending Eddie to the floor! Dragon charges for a dive so Eddie moves and Dragon fakes him by springboarding back into the ring! When Eddie turns around Dragon goes flying through the ropes with a Suicide Dive! Dragon rolls Eddie back into the ring and goes hits a huge release German Suplex! 1…2…NO Eddie kicks out! Dragon goes for a Powerbomb but Eddie counters and goes for one of his own, but Dragon counters into the Dragon Sleeper! They are too close to the ropes and Eddie is able to get his feet into them to break the hold. Dragon puts Eddie up on the top rope and climbs up. Dragon goes for a Superrana but Eddie pushes him off and then hits a huge Tornado DDT! Eddie then hits the Frog Splash and that’s it! Eddie retains his belt! Eddie would go onto to defend that belt in one of the greatest matches of all time (in my opinion) at Halloween Havoc ’97 against Rey Mysterio Jr. in a Mask vs. Title Match.
Winner & STILL Cruiser Champ: Eddie Guerrero via pinfall (Frog Splash)(Very good match, a little sloppy at some points but still pretty solid from both guys. ***)WCW Cruiserweight Championship Psicosis vs. Eddie Guerrero (c)This time we’ll see a match BEFORE the documentary instead of after. It’s the original Psicosis (now wrestling as Nicho el Millionario in AAA) and the late, great Eddie Guerrero who is still the Cruiserweight Championship at this point. Psicosis charges Eddie at the bell and goes for a running dropkick in the corner but Eddie moves and Psicosis eats the corner. Eddie then puts the boots to Psicosis and then hits a back suplex as Tenay points out that Psicosis’s manager at this time, Sonny Ono, is not at ringside. Eddie throws Psicosis into the corner and lights his chest up with Knife Edge Chops. Eddie attempts to whip Psicosis into the corner but he counters and then charges at Eddie, but Eddie backdrops Psicosis up and over the top rope. Psicosis lands on the apron and then climbs to the top and hits a Spinning Heel Kick off the top. Eddie bails out to the floor and then Psicosis hits a sliding dropkick and climbs back up to the top! Psicosis then comes flying with an unbelievable Senton Backsplash onto Eddie on the floor! Psicosis rolls Eddie back into the ring and is selling his back now. Psicosis hits a scoop slam and climbs back up top. Psicosis goes for a Diving Headbutt, but Eddie sits up and avoids the move. Psicosis goes for a front kick but Eddie catches his foot, and then Psicosis rolls Eddie up out of nowhere! 1…2..NO Eddie kicks out! Psicosis goes for another spinning heel kick but Eddie catches him in midair and drops him down over his knee with a vicious backbreaker working on that injured back of Psicosis more! Eddie then goes for a Back Suplex but Psicosis lands on his feet. Eddie then kicks Psicosis in the gut and goes for a Powerbomb but Psicosis lands on his feet again and this another spinning heel kick! Psicosis once again climbs to the top and hits another Spinning Heel Kick off the top! 1…2…NO Eddie gets his foot on the bottom rope! Psicosis once again climbs to the top but Eddie crotches him and then hits a Superplex! Eddie quickly climbs to the top and hits the Frog Splash! 1…2…3 and it’s over! Eddie then attempts to take Psicosis’ mask off but he is able to roll out of the ring.
Winner & STILL Cruiserweight Champ: Eddie Guerrero via pinfall (Frog Splash)(Decent match by both guys but I have seen them have far better matches with each other and it wasn’t given a ton of time. **1/2)Part 3This time Tenay is looking at the history of the mask in Lucha Libre. Tenay visits the shop of Mask Maker Victor Martinez and looks at some of his more famous masks that he’s created and then speaks to Rey Mysterio Jr. and his uncle, Rey Mysterio Sr. in Mexico City. Rey Sr. talks about the night he lost his mask and while he was talking he was holding his mask up over his face and he said he questioned whether he would be accepted without his mask and then pulls the mask down revealing his face. Tenay puts over the history of masks in Azteca culture and even a historian who is an expert on masks in Aztec culture speaks on it. Psicosis says that his mask his part of his soul and is everything to him. Rey puts over how much his mask means to him and his fear of losing it. Silver King says that he doesn’t like to follow tradition and it would be a mistake to cover his beautiful face (haha, if you’ve been reading my Lucha column how ironic is that?). La Parka says his mask means death and it’s supposed to be scary to his opponent. Tenay puts over the importance of Mask and Hair Matches and in an awesome segment they speak to Hijo del Santo who shows off a clump of hair that is in fact Eddie Guerrero’s which Santo won when he and Octagon defeated Guerrero and Art Barr in their classic 2/3 Falls Mask vs. Hair Tag Match at When World’s Collide. Santo says it’s like a trophy to him much like masks that luchadores win. Guerrero says that if he ever gets in the ring with Santo again that he Santo would lose his ‘person’ (his mask). Man that actually makes me a little depressed, how huge would’ve another Mask vs. Hair Match between Eddie and Santo been?
Part 4 This week Tenay puts a spotlight on Rey’s career. Rey takes through a tour of the barrio in Mexico City and talks about how tough it was growing up in the barrio. They show tons of highlights of Rey’s matches and then Rey talks about Rey Sr. giving him the Rey Mysterio mask and they show more highlights. Tenay says that Rey revolutionized high flying wrestling in America (very true). Rey says that he gets nervous thinking about possibly losing his mask and the rest of the segment is hyping up the Mask vs. Title Match between Rey and Eddie at Halloween Havoc.
Juventud Guerrera vs. Yuji Nagata w/Sonny Ono Juvi (along with Rey) is one of my favorite luchadores. During the entrances Zbyszco pretty much sh*ts on the Lucha heritage by saying he can’t understand why a ‘piece of cloth’ means so much to the luchadores. Way to go Larry, just bury this 4 week long documentary that your company and your colleague has worked hard to put over, a**hole. You’re looking at a man that became one of the best luchadores in Lucha in Juventud and a man that became of the best Puro wrestlers in Japanese wrestling in Nagata. At this point both were at a relatively young stage in their careers. Juvi and Nagata lockup but Nagata nails Juvi with a right hand and then hits a big scoop slam. Nagata with sick marital arts kicks to the chest and then puts Juvi in a nerve hold. Nagata whips Juvi into the ropes and goes for a Front Kick but Juvi slides underneath him and then comes off the ropes but Nagata catches him with a knee to the gut as we see Raven and the Flock in the crowd. Nagata whips Juvi into the corner and charges at him but Juvi gets his boot up and then goes for a hurricanrana but Nagata counters with a Powerbomb. Nagata then goes for a German Suplex but Juvi blocks and comes off the ropes, but Nagata catches him again and goes for another German Suplex but Juvi lands on his feet! Juvi hits a hurricanrana, 1…2..NO Nagata kicks out! Juvi chops Nagata and then attempts to whip Nagata into the corner but Nagata reverses it and then charges at Juvi. Juvi moves and Nagata eats the turnbuckles. Juvi charges at Nagata but he backdrops Juvi over the top rope to the apron. Juvi lands on his feet and then hits a forearm and springs to the top and hits a springboard missile dropkick! Juvi hits a scoop slam and then climbs to the top for the 450! Sonny Ono climbs up on the apron and kicks Juvi in the leg knocking him off the top rope as the referee checked on Nagata. Dragon runs out to ringside as Nagata hits a belly-to-belly overhead suplex on Juvi! Nagata then locks Juvi in the Nagata Lock! Juvi taps and Dragon chases Ono around ringside. Dragon catches him but Nagata dives from the apron onto Dragon. Nagata throws Dragon into the ring and holds him as Ono hits several martial arts kicks and Nagata puts the boots to him. Nagataa finally puts Dragon in the Nagata Lock as Ono takes a picture of it and then they show a replay of the match.
Winner: Yuji Nagata via submission (Nagata Lock) (Very good match and I think this is the only time in their careers that Juvi and Nagata ever faced each other. Pretty cool matchup and they worked well together. ***)Part 5This week Tenay puts over the fan support in Mexico and the family tradition in Lucha. Ray Mendoza (father of all 5 Villano brothers) speaks about insisting that his sons all finished school before they could start wrestling (which is true and I believe that I’ve spoke about in my column in the past) and the Villano brothers talk about the importance of carrying on their fathers legacy as does Hector Garza (father, Humberto Garza) and he puts over the importance of making it on his own. Negro Casas, current CMLL star and one of the better wrestlers in the world today and a man that I don’t believe ever wrestled in WCW, speaks about the family heritage in lucha and they show scenes of him training with what looks like to be Lizmark Sr. Lizmark Jr. says that to wear the same mask and carry the name of his father is a great tradition but his father says that he has surpassed him. Juvi talks about his fathers legacy and then we see El Hijo del Santo and he speaks about his fathers passing. Tenay puts over the historic significance of El Santo’s funeral and how big it was and puts over how Santo was even buried in his mask. Hijo del Santo talks about how great it was to see the fan support for his father at the funeral. Tenay then speaks about the 2nd generation wrestlers that came to the forefront in Lucha in the 80s and 90s again and talks about them establishing their names in WCW. Next time they explore the unbelievable moves in Lucha.
La Parka vs. Glacier It’s the CHAIRMAN of WCW, La Parka! This of course the original La Parka (now wrestling as L.A. Park) and not the horrible one that AAA uses (La Parka Jr.). They show footage of La Parka hitting Glacier with a chair several weeks ago putting over how Glacier wants to get revenge on the chairman. Parka waves the Mexican flag before the match and gets the fans behind him early. Parka mocks Glacier’s martial arts stuff and then bows to him so Glacier bows back but Parka kicks him. Parka then goes for several chops and kicks but Glacier blocks them all and hits a huge Palm Thrust. Parka pushes the referee into Glacier and then hits a big right hand. Parka with an uppercut and then puts Glacier in a side headlock but Glacier pushes him off into the ropes. Glacier leapfrogs Parka and then La Parka hits a shoulder block and gets only a one count. Parka with another shoulder block and another one count. Parka goes for a right hand but Glacier catches his hand and ducks underneath and hits a backick to the head. Glacier then hits a spinning back kick that sends Parka through the ropes to the floor. We some legs sticking out underneath the ring and I don’t know what that’s about. Glacier hits a slingshot cross body over the top onto Parka on the floor! Those legs are still sticking out from under the ring, what the hell?! Glacier goes for a baseball slide dropkick but Parka moves and slides back into the ring quickly. Parka then clotheslines Glacier as he came back in the ring and then hits a gorgeous corkscrew Enziguri for a nearfall. Parka spikes Glacier with a sick Piledriver! Parka then does his dance! Parka whips Glacier into the ropes and this a spinning heel kick and Glacier bails out to the floor. Parka then hits a freaking gorgeous Corkscrew Plancha over the top rope onto Glacier on the floor! Parka picks up his chair and slams Glacier into and then sits Glacier on it. Parka climbs up to the top rope but Glacier leaps up and grabs the rope crotching Parka. Glacier climbs up the top and snatches Parka down onto the chair on the floor! Glacier then rolls Parka back into the ring and ducks a clothesline from Parka and hits the Cryonic Kick! 1…2…3 and that’s it!
Winner: Glacier via pinfall (Cryonic Kick)(Very good match from these two. I never liked the Mortal Kombat ripoff gimmick for Glacier but he was always very good in the ring and Parka is one of the best. They worked very well together and the match was very solid. ***1/2) Part 6 This is the final segment in the documentary and Tenay will look at the unbelievable moves in lucha libre. Some great highlights are shown and some of the moves spotlighted are the La Magistral Cradle, the Tapatia (inverted surfboard), Gori Special, Frog Splash (Tenay even points out that it was Eddie’s partner Art Barr who used the move first and Eddie does it in his honor), the man variations of planchas, the Tope Suicida (suicide dive), the triple tope (three man suicide dive), the man variations of hurricanranas, the corkscrew plancha, Psicosis’ Guillotine Legdrop, backsplash Senton, the move Ultimo Dragon invented: Asai Moonsault, Juvi’s 450 Splash, Hector Garza’s insane Corkscrew Plancha, Juventud’s incredible Air Juvi (springboard off of another mans back into a body attack over the top rope), and then he shows several different dives and high spots. A great end to the documentary.
Lucha Battle Royal Lizmark Jr. vs. Damien (now known as Damian666) vs. Villano IV vs. El Dandy vs. Ciclope (now known as Halloween) vs. Silver King vs. Juventud Guerrera vs. Villano V The luchadores are already going at it as the final entrants enter the ring. Silver King hits a crazy somersault dropkick on Lizmark and one of the Villanos. Juvi hits a springboard hurricanrana on King and then hits another hurricanrana on him. Villano V hits a back elbow on both Juvi and King and then a big Powerbomb. Damien charges at Silver King but he backdrops him onto the top rope crotching him! Ciclope puts the boots to Juvi and King attempts to eliminate Damien but he blocks it so King suplexes him back into the ring. Lizmark is battling Villano IV on the top rope and El Dandy runs over and Powerbombs off Villano off the top! Ciclope then knocks Lizmark off the top and Villano V hits a DDT on Dandy. Ciclope attempts to eliminate Lizmark but he blocks it. Lizmark with several nasty kicks to Cliclope. Action all of over the place as The Giant walks out. Coclope eliminates somebody as Giant comes in and Chokeslams Dandy, Ciclope, and Damien all in succession. Giant then headbutts Villano IV and Atomic Drops Lizmark and then press slams Silver King up and throws him on Villano! Giant then Chokeslams another Villano as Lizmark dives off the top but Giant catches him in midair and hits a powerslam. Giant screams at one of the Villanos so he just bails out and runs. Giant has cleared the ring.
Winner: NO CONTEST (Pretty decent action that was all over the place until The Giant came out and buried the entire Cruiserweight division damn near. **)
Bonus Match #1
Silver King vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. Tenay points out that this is in fact the first singles match between these two wrestlers. King gets the advantage as the bell rings with a hammerlock and then Rey Counters into backflip right into a head scissors takeover! Tenay talks about the new tradition that Rey started recently at that point of giving a replica of his mask to a fan which is a tradition that Rey continues to this day. Rey with a beautiful arm drag and then a drop toe hold and locks King in a front chancery. King counters into a wristlock and then he lights up Rey’s chest with chops. King puts Rey in a side headlock but Rey pushes him off and King hits a shoulder block. Rey leapfrogs a charging Garza hits a rolling hurricanrana on Garza over the top rope sending King to the floor! King then gets back in the ring with an attempted slingshot elbow drop but Rey moves and then hits the Split Legged Moonsault! 1…2…NO King grabs the bottom rope! Rey attempts to whip King into the corner but he reverses it and then hits an incredible running springboard spinning kick in the corner. King charges Rey in the corner again but Rey moves and puts Garza up on the top rope and hits an incredible Reverse Superrana! 1…2…NO King kicks out! Rey attempts to whip King into the ropes but King reverses it and then lifts Rey up but he counters into another hurricanrana! King rolls through, 1…2…NO Rey kicks out! Guerrero walks out as King lifts Rey up and into a Powerbomb attempt but Rey again counters with a hurricanrana! 1…2…NO King still kicks out! Eddie standing at ringside distracts Rey and this allows Silver King to absolutely destroy Rey with a vicious Superkick! King with an elbow drop and then he hits a scoop slam. Silver King climbs to the top rope and goes for his beautiful Moonsault but Rey moves and then hits the springboard into the West Coast Pop! 1…2…3 and that’s it! After the match Rey and Eddie stare each other down and the referee stops Eddie from getting in the ring. Rey then hits a somersault plancha over the back of the ref over the top rope onto Eddie and then picks up Eddie’s Cruiserweight Belt and holds it up!
Winner: Rey Mysterio Jr. via pinfall (West Coast Pop)(Very, very good match between Silver King and Rey. Both were really hitting their prime at that time. Some really crazy moves and counters and everything just looked so crisp and fluid. ****)Bonus Match #2:Scott Hall w/Syxx (X-Pac) vs. Hector GarzaThis was probably the biggest match of Garza’s career of this time as he was incredibly young at this point. Hall kicks Garza at the bell and hits a right hand that knocks Garza down. Hall then puts the boots to Garza and mocks the referee. Hall hits a big right hand and whips Garza into the ropes. Hall goes for a clothesline but Garza ducks and goes for a cross body but Hall catches him in midair and sets Garza up on the top rope and kicks him. Hall then climbs to the top and hits a Super Fallaway Slam! Hall then daps it up with Syxx and messes with the referee somemore even kicking him in the butt and Garza rolls Hall up! 1…2…3 and Garza upsets Hall! Hall and Syxx jump Garza after the match and hits the Outsiders Edge on Garza as Syxx grabs the referee. Hall then drops the referee with the Outsiders Edge talking trash to Zbyszco at the same time.
Winner: Hector Garza via pinfall (Just pretty much a squash with a shocking surprise upset at the end. I just added it because Garza was a relative unknown even in Mexico at this point. *)Bonus Match #3:
8-Man Tag Team Match
La Parka, Psicosis, Villano IV, & Villano V w/Sonny Ono vs. Juventud Guerrera, Ciclope, Lizmark Jr., & Ultimo Dragon This is a really interesting matchup that I don’t recall seeing before and that’s pretty much why I added it. Ciclope is of course known as Halloween ½ of Mexico’s Most Wanted. Psicosis is rocking the purple and black ring gear that looks crazy. Psicosis and Dragon will start the match off. They lockup and Dragon gets the advantage with a side headlock but Psicosis pushes him off and Dragon hits a shoulder block. Dragon comes off the ropes and Psicosis goes for a backdrop but Dragon lands on his feet and hits a spinning back kick. Dragon whips Psicosis into the ropes and goes for a leapfrog but Psicosis stops and hits a big right hand that levels Dragon. Psicosis whips Dragon into the corner and Dragon nips up into a headscissors but Psicosis shoves him off and Dragon shows his incredible balance by doing a headstand on the top rope for a pretty good while as Psicosis looks on in amazement. Dragon then kicks Psicosis as he charges and then goes for a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker but Psicosis lands on his feet and Dragon hits a knee to the gut. Dragon then throws Psicosis headfirst trough the ropes to the floor. Parka then comes flying in with a Missile Dropkick on Dragon sending him to the floor. Remember this is competed under lucha rules so tags are not necessary. Juvi hits a springboard into a gorgeous hurricanarna followed by doing multiple revolutions around Parka and then hitting a spinning back kick sending Parka to the floor! Juvi climbs to the top but Villano V comes in and knocks Juvi off the top to the floor. Ciclope runs in and attempts something but Villano moves. Ciclope leapfrogs Villano and then ducks a clothesline and hits a Superkick sending Villano to the floor. Villano IV comes in and hits a scoop slam on Ciclope and then hits a running knee strike to the face that sends Ciclope crashing through the ropes to the floor! Lizmark Jr. dives off the top at Villano but he ducks and Lizmark lands on his feet. Villano with a sickening chop and then whips Lizmark into the corner but Lizmark springs to the top and hits a springboard cross body on Villano! Dragon comes in and hits a backdrop on Villano and then Lizmark hits a hurricanrana on Villano! 1…2..NO the rudos break it up and all hell breaks loose! The rudos whip Lizmark into the ropes and Villano goes for a clothesline but Lizmark ducks and the tecnicos pull the rudos under the ropes down to the floor! In the ring Lizmark clotheslines Villano over the top to the floor! Lizmark then hits a cartwheel into a suicide dive over the top onto Villano IV! Villano V then hits a Tope Suicida of his own on Lizmark on the floor! Ciclope then hits a gorgeous somersault plancha over the top onto Villano V! La Parka now hits a springboard corkscrew moonsault onto everybody! Juventud flies with an insane corkscrew somersault plancha onto the pile! In the ring Psicosis whips Dragon into the corner and then goes for the running dropkick but Dragon moves and Psicosis crash and burns. Dragon then puts Psicosis up on the top rope but Ono snatches him off to the floor! Ono then holds Dragon as Psicosis leaps off the top with a Plancha but Dragon moves and Psicosis hits Ono! Back in the ring La Parka hits a big powerslam on Juvi as Dragon has Psicosis in the Dragon Sleeper on the floor! Parka climbs to the top but Juvi climbs up with him and Juvi hits a forearm that knocks Parka off the top crotching him! Juvi then springboards into a hurricanrana! Juvi then leaps up onto Parka’s shoulders and then spins around and rolls Parka up! 1…2…3 and that’s it!
Winners: Juvi, Dragon, Lizmark Jr., & Ciclope via pinfall (rollup)(Whooo, now that brought back memories of that cruiserweight division big time! Unbelievable action with nonstop all over the place action. The dive sequence was one of the better I’ve seen and just a ton of great action! ****)Bonus Match #4:Juventud Guerrera vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. This is a great matchup and these two have probably wrestled each other a few hundred times, I’ve seen probably most of them. They are my two favorite luchadores ever and I believe this is one of their first matches in WCW against each other. Juvi was still wearing his mask at this point and this was the first time that Rey ever gave a young fan a replica mask. They lockup and Rey gets the advantage with a side headlock but Juvi counters with a back suplex. Rey lands on his feet and they lockup again. This time Juvi gets the advantage with a wristlock but Juvi rolls through into one of his own. Juvi rolls through and then Rey sweeps Juvi and gets a one count. Juvi nips up and puts Rey back in a side headlock. Rey pushes Juvi off and then hits a shoulder block. Juvi leapfrogs Rey and then goes for a clothesline but Rey ducks and hits swinging headscissors takeover! Rey then rolls up Juventud going for the rolling hurricanrana but Juvi catches him and drops him sternum first over the top rope hanging him there. Juvi then dropkicks Rey goes to the apron. Juvi then hits an incredible sunset flip Powerbomb from the apron onto Rey onto the floor! There was a HUGE thud as Rey hit the floor. Rey pulls himself up and Juvi drags him back onto the apron. Juvi then hits a Brainbuster from the apron into the ring and then hits a springboard leg drop, 1…2…NO Rey kicks out! Juvi with a nasty chop and then whips Rey into the ropes and hits a press slam! Winner: Rey Mysterio via pinfall (West Coast Pop)(Great match! These two rarely disappoint, especially against each other. ****) This is a wonderful documentary that Mike Tenay put together and he really showcases the traditions and history of Lucha Libre very well. I think this would be great for any Lucha fan, especially those that are new to it. It was the “When Worlds Collide” PPV that made me fall in love with Lucha Libre but it was this Mike Tenay documentary that really made me want to learn as much as possible as I could about this sport.
